Welcome to Twenty Peaceful Minutes (20PM) - a community website for Forney, Texas. In addition to this blog, 20PM is home to the Forney discussion forums, which you may reach by clicking the Forney discussion forum link or going to http://20pm.net/forums; also, considering signing up for email or newsreader (RSS feed) notifications of new posts to the 20PM blog!

Just a quick update - I’ve added two new pages to the blog that you can access without having to go through each particular blog post - the “Stores Open & Opening” page where I’ll try to condense and update all of the information concerning new businesses, stores, restaurants and more that may be opening in Forney soon, as well as the “New Communities” page where I’ll try to keep some up-to-date information about each new community in Forney.

I also updated the “About” page. All of these pages are accessible via the links near the top of each page.

If you’ve driven down Highway 80 east of Dallas any time in the past year or two, you’ve no doubt noticed Forney’s explosive growth. Already, since the brand new, 186,715 square foot WalMart opened in May 2005, Forney has also added a Lowe’s Home Improvement store, a Starplex movie theater, a Sonic Drive-In, a Wendy’s, a Whataburger and a Chilli’s, all at or near the intersection of Highway 80 and FM-548, primarily in the Mustang Crossing shopping center.

Nearing completion in this same shopping center is a new Auto Zone store as well as a Capital One bank and financial center.

On September 7th, the Planning & Zoning Commission approved the site plan for a Walgreens; the Forney City Council is set to discuss this matter at their next meeting, Tuesday, September 19th.

News has been going around of a Chick-Fil-A coming to Forney as well - sure enough, a quick check of the Kaufman County tax rolls shows that Chick-Fil-A arranged for some land in the same Mustang Crossing shopping center at the end of 2005.

I’m already hearing lots of rumors about other possible stores and restaurants opening up in Forney, so as I get settled in and have a chance to learn more, I’ll share what I learn here.

Hello, and welcome to ‘Twenty Peaceful Minutes’, a new blog about life in Forney, Texas. Soon after moving to Forney, I realized there wasn’t one solid place on the Internet where residents and the general public could go for news on all the exciting new development in Forney. I had stumbled across a few different websites that posted some information here and there, and I’ve been lucky enough to meet a few of the countless friendly citizens of Forney who have shared quite a bit of information with me, so I thought I’d gather as much information as I could and post it on this website for anyone who wants to keep up with the latest news, rumored new development and other happenings in Forney. At the same time, I’ll share a bit of my experiences coming to live in beautiful Forney, Texas. For those of you not familiar with Forney, the name of our blog comes from a slogan Forney has long used to promote itself and its great location - “Forney, Texas, Twenty Peaceful Minutes East of Downtown Dallas”.
