Rumor Roundup

Sometimes people email me with rumors that I just can’t confirm or deny, that are new to me or that I’ve heard before, but can’t seem to track down any proof about. I’ve decided to post all of these rumors and see if anyone else out has heard these rumors and perhaps has more information. If you’ve emailed me one of these rumors and I haven’t emailed you back yet, I apologize. I’ve been greatly surprised at the number of people reading the site and emailing, so it’s taking me some time to get to everything. If you have any info on any of these rumors, please feel free to email me at josh@twentypeacefulminutes.com!

These rumors range from things that are new to me to things I’ve heard a few times, and cover everything from grocery stores to water parks! Simply click “Read On” below to read all about it…

First, the one thing I’ve confirmed:

  • An “urgent care center” (similar to Primacare and other facilities that can provide help with minor emergencies and illnesses) in Shafer Plaza. It’s called Care United and will open in Summer 2007 according to their website, www.careunited.com.

There’s several rumors that seem likely, or that I’ve found some evidence for:

  • A Target; everything points to Target building “normal” store and not a supercenter in Forney. The big difference is that their supercenters carry groceries. The one thing I can’t pin down is if they’re building a freestanding store (which would be located on 20+ acres) or if they’re going to go into one of the big buildings that will be part of Forney Commons or Place Le Grand.
  • A Kroger grocery store. The site plans for Forney Commons as well as Place Le Grand have large spaces set aside for what looks like a grocery store, and Kroger has invested heavily in communities near Forney, including Rockwall. Several people have contacted me to say that Kroger is interested in the area, but they may be trying to find a deal that will be easier on their budget. I think a few different grocery store chains are watching Forney, since it’s growing so fast and yet only has one dedicated grocery store (Brookshires), plus the WalMart.
  • Wing Stop; I’ve heard several rumors that Wing Stop will be opening somewhere near Mustang Crossing; I never can seem to separate out Mustang Crossing, Shafer Plaza and some of the other surrounding properties, but I’m wondering if this will be in the buildings that are being built closer to Lowe’s in Mustang Crossing.

And one very interesting rumor that I haven’t pinned down either way:

  • A water park. Not sure where, or if it would be a wave pool like Surf and Swim in Garland, or something more complex like NRH20 in North Richland Hills. I doubt it will be run by the city like those two parks are, but perhaps there’s some enterprising company out there that’s working on a water park in Forney? There’s certainly enough young families looking for something to do on the weekends, and there’s no city pools, so it’s a possibility, but it’s certainly the most unique rumor I’ve heard so far, and I haven’t been able to confirm or disprove it yet.

It looks like there’s another new retail development coming to Forney soon; I’ll have more information about it soon, I hope. I also have some photos of the new Cold Stone and Cingular Store, as well as some of the other construction going on around Mustang Crossing that I hope to post soon; in addition to bringing you the latest development news from Forney, I want to start posting photos so that the many readers I have that are former Forney residents that now live out of the area can see how things are growing so fast here! In the meantime, I hope everyone is staying warm, and as always, if you have any rumors or information about any new development or news in Forney, please email me at josh@twentypeacefulminutes.com. Thanks!

Medical center going in on FM 548 accross from Fox Hollow.

  • Josh (Author) said:

You know, I saw this in the minutes from either a council or P&Z meeting, but I haven’t heard anything else about it. Is it going to be a medical center in the sense of a Prima-Care, like the Care United going in at Shafer Plaza, or a building with several doctor’s offices in it? Anyone know anything more specific about it?

I know that things are in motion to bring a full-sized hospital to Forney, and Care United is coming into Shafer Plaza, so it seems like quite a few medical businesses are moving to town, which is great.

Thanks for posting this, I appreciate it!

“Cirrus Health officials say they want to have plans finalized by November and work under way by early 2007, with a facility open within 15 months. ”

    AND

“Cirrus has 10 acres of land just north of the F.M. 548 and F.M. 741 intersection under contract, Thomas said. The plan is to have a 60,000-square-foot to 70,000-square-foot hospital with medical offices built on the land, but no determination has been made on how many beds the hospital would have.”

Other than that, nothing more specific.

Ahh, so the medical facility near Fox Hollow will be the Cirrus hospital. The way P&Z was being vague about it being a “medical facility” and “near Fox Hollow”, I didn’t put two and two together and realize it was the Cirrus facility. I’m still learning my major Forney intersections, but now that I look at it, just north of FM 548 & FM 741 would be “near Fox Hollow on 548″. Thanks for clarifying, Jeff!

    chik-a-fila construction has started

Is the building they’re prepping the foundation for near Capital One the new Chick-Fil-A? A reader emailed me to say that they had gotten in touch with Chick-Fil-A and they said that the Forney location is scheduled to be open by May 18th, 2007. Based on that schedule, I was guessing that the new construction was the Chick-Fil-A, but I was hoping to get some confirmation before posting it as a new story. Sounds like I have that confirmation now. Thanks, Nomad!

Any Idea if there will be a Taco Bell in Forney or some other restaurants coming?

  • Josh (Author) said:

I’ve had a lot of people asking about Taco Bell - if someone out there is or knows a Taco Bell franchisee, they need to open a location in Forney ASAP! I’d have to say Taco Bell, oddly enough, is the #1 most requested restaurant/fast food establishment that I get emails about.

Unfortunately, I’ve heard nothing about a Taco Bell. I was surprised, I looked up their financial requirements for new franchisees - you’d never expect it, but they have some very, very high requirements, so it may take a while for a Taco Bell to open up out here, unless an existing franchisee sees the opportunity and takes advantage of it.

I have heard from a lady at the Starbucks in Terrel that a Starbucks was supposed to open in April. I was certainly hoping that the building next to Chase Bank was going to be Starbucks. Certainly would be a great location for both the community AND all the highway traffic!

  • Josh (Author) said:

It’s been so long since I heard anything about it, I had almost forgotten, but there is a Starbucks that’s supposed to open in the Mustang Crossing Shopping center; the last update I got, which was back in 2006, said it would open sometime this spring. My guess is, if it’s going to be in Mustang Crossing, it may be in the buildings that are being finished down near Lowe’s. However, it may be coming to Shafer Plaza - a lot of the info I get tends to confuse Mustang Crossing and Shafer Plaza, since they’re so close together.
