I’ll be glad once Chick-Fil-A is open so that we can all stop guessing when they’re opening! I’ve heard about four different dates, including two “official” dates - one purporting to be from the Chamber of Commerce, and one purporting to be from the interim city manager. Click “Read On” below for the dates. Also, Starbucks should be on track to open on Saturday, June 29th.

Double Dave’s Pizzaworks has a sign up on their space in Shafer Plaza now! No word on when they’ll be opening, but I can’t wait. For those who aren’t familiar with Double Dave’s, they’re similar to a Cici’s in that they’re primarily a pizza buffet, although they also deliver. The quality is amazing for the price, it’s great pizza, with some unique flavors.

The two dates I’ve heard for Chick-Fil-A have been Thursday, June 14th and Thursday, July 12th. From what I’ve heard, everything’s done and they’re just working on hiring and training employees…so either date is plausible. However, considering that there aren’t any signs up on or around the building about a grand opening, or even the fact that they’re opening soon, I think the July 12th date is more likely. It would be wonderful if they were opening on the 14th, however, I know quite a few people in Forney are excited about Chick-Fil-A opening up!

The water restrictions for residents of the City of Forney were mentioned at the city council meeting last week; word is there’s no change for now, watering is still limited to one day a week, as the North Texas Municipal Water District has yet to relax their restrictions and guidelines. It looks like the city is waiting until NTMWD makes a move, but at the same time, quite a few other cities are starting to allow watering two times a week now that almost every lake North Texas draws water from is above “conservation level” with all the recent rains we’ve had (we’ve had so much rain, the National Weather Service and other weather agencies have said the drought is “over”). It was also mentioned that Forney doesn’t want to wait until they’re the last city to relax their water restrictions, so hopefully everyone will be allowed to water two days a week again soon.

A few quick updates…Lucky’s Sports Grill, which is coming in to Mustang Crossing near Lowe’s, has a sign up and has made some progress…it also looked like there might be a space next to Lucky’s that’s been leased and is under construction, but I couldn’t tell for sure what it is - perhaps a nail or hair salon? Wing Stop looks just about complete and ready to open - they’re in the same area of Mustang Crossing as Lucky’s. Hong Kong Express still looks like they’ve made little progress, but in the same building of Shafer Plaza near sonic, Sport Clips looks like they’re on track to open in July, if not a bit sooner.

The site plan for a National Tire & Battery store in Forney has been approved by the city council, as has the site plan for a retail area called “Woodland Crossing”. Bahama Bucks (delicious snow cones, although they prefer to call themselves purveyors of “tropical desserts”) has announced they’re coming to Forney, but no word yet on where.
