Red Light Cameras in Forney?

Filed under: Forney News, Government & Politics — Josh at 2:01 pm on Tuesday, September 25, 2007

Welcome to Twenty Peaceful Minutes (20PM) - a community website for Forney, Texas. In addition to this blog, 20PM is home to the Forney discussion forums, which you may reach by clicking the Forney discussion forum link or going to http://20pm.net/forums; also, considering signing up for email or newsreader (RSS feed) notifications of new posts to the 20PM blog!

A company that produces red light cameras put out a press release yesterday stating “New Texas cities contracted with REDFLEX include Allen, Bedford, Carrollton, Forney, Granite Shoals, Haltom, Hurst, Killeen, Lewisville, Mesquite, Southlake, Tomball and Roanoke.”

The company refers to themselves as “the leading provider of photo enforcement technology in the U.S.” You can read the entire press release here.

We don’t even have that many red lights within Forney city limits, and most of those are on TXDOT-controlled Farm-to-Market roads, so I’m not sure where these red light cameras would even end up, outside of a few lights in downtown Forney. Has anyone heard anything about this? Discuss it in this topic in the Forney discussion forum.

UPDATE: An updated report hit the wire on October 9th and can be read here. This site states: “The scope of the program includes red-light enforcement at up to twenty intersections, and has a term of five years, plus two 2-year automatic renewals.”

Filed under: Education, Schools & Family — Josh at 6:05 pm on Monday, September 17, 2007

Forney ISD has posted sketches and a virtual tour created by the architect designing Forney ISD’s new, second high school. The school looks beautiful, and will be a wonderful addition to the community. In addition to the electronic textbook program, the design of the school incorporates quite a few modern elements and the latest technology, offering excellent opportunities to the students of Forney ISD. Construction on the new school, which is to be built off of FM-548 (take 548 north, past WalMart, past Steve Silver Co. you’ll eventually see a sign on your right marking the site of the new school), is scheduled to begin in January 2008 and the campus will open in August 2009. Feel free to discuss this post in this thread in the Forney Discussion Forums. Oh, and stop by this thread to wish the site a happy birthday - Twenty Peaceful Minutes.com has now been around for a year!
