“In my day there was no soft opening. One day you’re closed, the next day you’re open”. I have to admit, that quote from Ocean’s 13 was the first thing I thought of when I noticed the sign posted at Lucky’s Sports Grill, saying they were having a soft opening for one or more nights, and would be opening to their normal business hours on Thursday, November 1st.

Last Day to Register to Vote

Filed under: Government & Politics — Josh at 11:41 am on Tuesday, October 9, 2007

Today, Tuesday, October 9th, is the last day to register to vote and still be able to vote in the November election. If you have moved to Forney from another county, you must register in Kaufman County in order to be able to vote here.

If you have moved from one address in Kaufman County to another, you may update your address online via the Secretary of State’s website.

If you have never registered to vote, or if you have moved to Forney from another county, you will need to complete an application. The Secretary of State provides a PDF of an ‘informal application’ that you may print out, fill out and mail in. This form is available on their website, on the “Request for Voter Registration Application” page.

According to the state’s website, after completing the informal application, you should place it in an envelope addressed to:

Tax Assessor-Collector
Richard Murphy
P.O. Box 339
Kaufman, TX 75142

For any questions, contact the tax assessor’s office at (972) 932-4331. Please remember that your voter registration must be postmarked today, so print it out and get it to the post office by 5PM!

Photos From Around Forney

Filed under: Forney News — Josh at 10:13 pm on Wednesday, October 3, 2007

Forney has been growing and changing so fast lately, I thought it would be interesting to document this in photos, so I’m going to start posting photos from around Forney. Today, I took a photo of a field that will soon be surrounded by Devonshire, a new, large neighborhood as well as a field south of Reeder Road, where there’s rumors of everything from neighborhoods to stores. Click the images to view a larger version.

Amazing to think about, really, a majority of the population of Forney is living in neighborhoods that just a relatively few years ago looked just like this - wide open fields. Even with all the growth, it’s good to know that beautiful views like this still surround our town!
