Car Show at Lucky’s to Benefit 12 Year Old Courageously Battling Bone Cancer
Welcome to Twenty Peaceful Minutes (20PM) - a community website for Forney, Texas. In addition to this blog, 20PM is home to the Forney discussion forums, which you may reach by clicking the Forney discussion forum link or going to http://20pm.net/forums; also, considering signing up for email or newsreader (RSS feed) notifications of new posts to the 20PM blog!
Christy recently posted some information in the Forney discussion forums here on 20PM that I want to share with everyone - there will be a car show on Sunday, June 29th to benefit Laurren Smith, a 12 year old from Forney who was diagnosed with bone cancer (osteosarcoma) in August of 2007 and has undergone chemotherapy, several operations and continues to fight hard against this difficult cancer.
Read on for more about Laurren as well as the car show!
The car show will be Sunday, June 29th from 1 to 5PM. Please see the flyer to the left (click for a larger version) for all of the details of the various car classes, competitions and more. Registration is only $15 and will run from 1PM to 2:45PM the day of the event.
Laurren’s family has setup a page on CaringBridge.org where you can read more about Laurren’s battle with cancer, the various operations she’s endured and prayer requests from her and her family.
Her CaringBridge site mentions an address to mail cards to Laurren - PO Box 1711, Forney, TX 75126. Laurren made it home from the hospital from another operation earlier this week, so even if you aren’t going to participate in the car show, consider sending a simple card to Laurren and her family and let them know that you’re thinking about them and praying for them. Knowing that the entire Forney community is praying for Laurren and is here to uplift and support her and her family will no doubt encourage Laurren to stay strong during such a difficult time in her young life.
The journal her family is keeping on her CaringBridge site gives a glimpse of how loving and strong Laurren and her family have been throughout what has now been an almost year-long struggle with cancer and is truly inspirational - if you have a few minutes, I really recommend reading some of the entries.
