Forney Goes for 2-0 Start
For the first time in 4A, the Jackrabbits have the chance to be 2-0. With an impressive Week 0 win against a visiting Greenville Lions team, the Forney Jackrabbits are in a position to build some early season momentum that may help them break the 4A Playoff barrier they have faced since moving up to the new classification. A dominating defense and the expected strong running game combined to give the Jackrabbits a season opening 25-15 win. This week the Jackrabbits head down the road just a little bit to Seagoville to face the Dragons who are hurting a bit.
Seagoville started their season with a loss, 37-6, to 3A opponent Kennedale. That game was close at halftime, with Seagoville actually holding a 6-3 lead, followed by thirty four unanswered points from Kennedale in the second half. Seagoville had a no doubt discouraging 4 lost fumbles in their game, many of them deep in Kennedale territory. Combine that with 6 penalties for 40 yards and the Dragons ended up with a sloppy season debut they will no doubt seek to correct Friday night. With 16 first down on the game, Seagoville is not seen as a slouch on the offensive side of the ball. However, the Forney defense gave up less than 100 total yards against Greenville, so something is going to have to give. Fans of the Black and Gold would like to see the trend continue with that dominant defense. Forney will need to keep QB Dunsten Owen in check all night, as he is a very athletic and mobile player who can hurt you from anywhere.
The Jackrabbit offense got off to their own slow start in the first game but finally found their stride with the legs of Peter Smith after the first quarter. Perhaps it was first game jitters and excitement, but once they settled in they looked very good. You can expect to see Coach Yudizky continue to try and get the passing game on track with QB Blake Branton throwing early to relieve some pressure from Peter Smith and the ground game. With 300 yards on the ground last week, the Forney offense leaves no doubt they can move the ball with Smith. The big difference will be the ability to keep the ball moving with the occasional pass completion to keep the defense honest. Promise was shown in that area last week. A few dropped passes kept it at the promise stage.
I am predicting a 28 – 10 win for the Jackrabbits.
Don’t forget to tune in to http://www.sportsgram.net if you can’t make the game or at 92.9 FM if you are at the stadium. Sportsgram will be around for the entire season, so make it a habit to listen and tell your friends and family they can listen as well. A full archive of the game will also be available in case you don’t find yourself free on Friday night. (With our apologies, last weeks game is unavailable due to technical difficulties.)

in the article about the interception in the end zone in the mckinney north game……you both were wrong about the person who made the interception. it was not keezie or phillip it was my son Bo gipson #6. you can look for more great plays from him on the defense. thank you.
Mr. Gipson,
OUR APOLOGIES! We try to get every call right and certainly want to give credit were credit is due. I could have swore it was Patterson, but without the benefit of video replay, I can’t be sure.
Thanks for the correction. We will give Bo a shoutout on the broadcast next Friday against Lancaster. It has been a pleasure and an honor to call the games this years. The boys are, without a doubt, having a great run and I certainly hope to see ‘em continue.
